idox, LLC—Our Story

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

idox, LLC, distributes the idox Traveler Series internationally through our headquarters here in Madison, Wisconsin. The Travelers Series, a hard case and stand, is specially designed for using your iPod or iPhone while traveling.

Here’s how we got started:

idox founder Vic Mohoney, like any dad, grew tired of his kids dropping and breaking their iPods. With each new iPod purchase, he grew more and more frustrated as he stared at the retail wall of iPod cases.  The cases did not protect the iPod or the iPod’s glass screen from breaking when dropped.

Then Vic noticed something else. While traveling on a long distance flight overseas, he grew tired of holding his iPhone while watching a movie.  Looking around he noticed other travelers were also awkwarldy holding their iPhones and iPods while watch videos or listening to music.

He started to sketch an iPod case design on an airline napkin– a case that would both protect the iPhone and iPod for his kids and provide a stand to watch videos during flights.

From that napkin sketch, the idox Traveler Series was born.

Vic continued to design more and more case solutions.  He started prototypes in his workshop—the first idox Traveler prototype was actually made of wood.  As he refined his designs, he developed a portfolio of designs in plastic prototypes. Then, in the summer of 2009, the idox Traveler Series became a reality.

The patented idox Traveler Series, made of ABS grade plastic, has been on the market for a year now and has seen plenty of media coverage. From the cover of  Skymall Magazine to a feature in Macworld—editors, reviewers and customers like what they see. You may have caught us in a few inflight publications, like Hemispheres and myMidwest. (Seen Below)
